The University of Virginia

This program offers multiple tracks including Adult- Gerontology CNS or NP, Clinical Nurse Leader, or Nurse Practitioner- Family, Neonatal, Pediatric, or Psychiatric-Mental Health. Classes are offered full or part-time. Graduates are eligible to sit for the appropriate national certification exam.

The Sentara College of Health Sciences

This program offers one track: Clinical Nurse Leader. Classes are offered primarily online, full or part-time. The program can be completed in two years.

Nursing Licensure in Virginia

The Virginia Board of Nursing requires that all APRN applicants first achieve national certification through an approved APRN licensure certification organization and exam. The Board approves APRNs for four different roles: Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). APRNs must choose a population focus when applying.

Prescriptive licenses for APRNs are available in the state of Virginia. They require a separate application and additional education in pharmacology laws, prescription writing, drug selection, dosage, route and interactions, information resources, and clinical application.
