Nursing Licensure in South Dakota
The South Dakota Board of Nursing requires that all APRN applicants first receive a registered nurse license. After attending an undergraduate program approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing, registered nurse applicants must earn a passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and then apply with the South Dakota State Board of Nursing for licensure. The South Dakota Board of Nursing requires that all APRN applicants first achieve national certification through an approved APRN licensure certification organization and exam.
The Board approves APRNs for four different roles: Certified Nurse Practitioner(CNP), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist(CRNA), Certified Nurse Midwife(CNM), or Clinical Nurse Specialist(CNS). APRNs must choose a specialty focus when applying.
