Licensure in Georgia

Nurses who graduate from programs that prepare Nurse Practitioners are licensed as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) by the Board of Nursing. Requirements for initial licensure in the state include an active RN license, verification employment document 500 hours of APRN practice within 4 years immediately preceding the date of application or proof of graduation from an approved education program within the preceding 4 years, and verification of national certification.

According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, NPs in Georgia have a restricted practice environment. This means that state laws and rules prohibit NPs from fully practicing to the extent of their education and training, and that there is a legal requirement for physician supervision, delegation, or team management by another health care provider in order for an NP to provide patient care.

Nurse educators and nurse leaders may be licensed as either an APRN or RN, depending on their individual training and educational background. The Georgia Board of Nursing licenses RNs by examination, endorsement, and reinstatement. Each licensure path has different requirements.

MSN and FNP Salaries in Georgia

According to data published in May 2018 by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a Nurse Practitioner in Georgia was $106,750. This is significantly higher than the average RN salary of $68,950.
